Lot Details

Lot 1057
[BEATON, CECIL] COWARD, NOËL. Two autograph letters signed, from Noël Coward to Cecil Beaton.
Both in blue ink on blue stationery, Dated July 16th and 19th, 1943. Single sheets, written recto only. 8 x 5 inches (20 x 12.5 cm); each about 12 lines, to "Dearest Cecil" from "Noël." Usual folds, the blank versos with old mounting traces, one with a pencil sketch and textile notes for a costume, likely in Beaton's hand.
Coward congratulates Beaton on his book (possibly Designs for the Theater) in the most cordial terms. Letters between these two great theatrical figures are rare; we note only one at auction, in 1985.
