KANT, IMMANUEL Prolegomena zu einer jeden künftigen Metaphysik die als Wissenschaft wird auftreten können.
Riga: Johann Friedrich Hartknoch, 1783. First edition, second issue (angel vignette headpiece on p. 3, and the staff-and-vine tailpiece on p. 222). Early 19th century marbled paper over boards, leather lettering piece on spine, all edges stained red. 7 5/8 x 4 5/8 inches (19 x 11.5 cm); 222 pp., terminal blank present; woodcut vignette on title. Light wear to binding, some minor foxing and toning to text.
The Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics was issued two years after the Critik der reinen Vernunft (Critique of Pure Reason), to clarify points in the latter which he thought had been incorrectly apprehended. Ultimately, he included much of the Prolegomena into the second, definitive edition of the Critique of Pure Reason. This second issue appeared the same year as the first. Warda 76.
