George I Scarlet- and Gilt-Japanned Bureau Cabinet
First quarter 18th century
In two parts, the upper section with molded cornice above a mirrored door flanked by stop-fluted pilasters and opening to an adjustable shelf centering pigeonholes and drawers, the fall opening to a sliding panel opening to a well and a prospect door flanked by secret drawers, pigeonholes and drawer, all over two short over two long graduated drawers, on bracket feet; one small interior drawer with French and Co. black stenciled number '77596'. Height 76 inches (193 cm), width 32 inches (81.2 cm), depth 19 inches (48.3 cm).
