Meissen Porcelain Documentary Dated Ogival Quatrefoil Bowl from the 'Christie-Miller Service'
Circa 1740, blue crossed swords mark
The exterior painted with a continuous scene, one side with figures examining books being written by a seated man beside a fountain flanked by statuary and a picnic basket, the obverse with equestrian figures and horn players, set against a distant view of monasteries and cities divided by water, above a broad gilt diaper trellis reserved with four purpur-Malerei vignettes of peasants at work, quay scenes, figures in landscapes and country villas, the interior with a loose bouquet of deutsche-Blumen, within a border of gilt ombrierte shells and interlocking scrolls and foliage reserved with four polychrome quatrefoil panels of harbor shipping scenes and German landscapes views, one of which depicts two figures passing a signpost bearing the date '1740', shaped gilt line rim.
Height 3 3/8 inches, diameter 9 5/8 inches.
