Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood and Sons,1858. First edition. Two volumes. Publisher's maroon cloth gilt lettered on the spine, housed in a morocco backed case. 8 x 4 3/4 inches; [vi], 366 pp.; [vi], 381 pp. The spines lightly faded and the cloth a bit rubbed, small abrasion to endpaper of volume II, very clean within and free of foxing, a clipping on the book to the rear free endpaper, with the bookplates of William Hardin Woodin.
A fine copy in original cloth of George Eliot's first work of fiction, rare with just 1,050 copies printed.
