EMERSON, RALPH WALDO Nature.
Boston: James Munroe, 1836. First edition, second state, with page 94 correctly numbered. Finely bound by Taffin in full green morocco gilt, the covers tooled in gilt, the spine tooled and lettered in gilt with raised bands, gilt turn-ins, marbled endpapers, slipcase. The spine browned and rubbed along joints, generally free from foxing, one corner repaired, a good copy, nicely bound.

First edition in a fine binding of Emerson's first book. Based on earlier lectures, Nature is a key work of transcendentalism. This copy sold as part of the Library of Richard Potter, Parke-Bernet, 9 May, 1944, lot 57.
