Boston: James Munroe, 1836. First edition, second state, with page 94 correctly numbered. Publisher's brown cloth, the upper cover gilt lettered, this is Myerson's cloth 7, stamping B embossed with a diapering of small rosettes and tiny tuliplike florets. 7 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches; 95 pp. Small losses at spine tips and corners, evenly foxed throughout, ink signature of J.H. Stoddart to front blank, possibly the actor (1827-1907), an unrestored copy.

First edition in original cloth of Emerson's first book. Based on earlier lectures, Nature is a key work of transcendentalism. Only 1,500 copies of this first edition were printed and the bindings are noted in as many as 75 combinations of the blind-stamped cloth.
