New York: Rinehart and Company, [1948]. First edition signed by Mailer on the title page, first printing with the publisher's circled "R" on the copyright page. Publisher's cloth, in original dust jacket with the $4.00 price present, the jacket the first issue without New York Herald Tribune quote. 8 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches; 721 pp. The cloth spine with a few chips and the rear joint with splits, the jacket spine darkened and with small losses to tips and a stain to verso, other rubbed areas and wear along extremities, dated ink ownership markings to title.
Signed first edition of Mailer's World War II epic of the Pacific Theater.
