[EINSTEIN, ALBERT] SEELIG, CARL-editor. Helle Zeit--Dunkle Zeit. In Memoriam Albert Einstein.
Zurich: Europe Verlag, 1956. First edition, extra-illustrated with five original photographs of Albert Einstein (two of him with visiting children, and three portraits of Einstein by himself), with Einstein's cut Mercer Street letterhead, and a cut signature with typed felicitations, clearly extracted from a letter by Einstein; and other materials. These are laid down to the front free endpaper and half-title. 7 7/8 x 4 7/8 inches (20.5 x 12.5 cm); 171 [1] pp. Dust jacket quite frayed with losses, one photograph creased along one edge where it overlaps the gutter margin. Bookplate of William P. Moor.
A Gedenkschrift for Einstein, who had died the preceding year. The photographs, likely taken during a family visit to Einstein by a friend, probably in the 1950s, include two absolutely charming photographs of Einstein with young children, looking happy and grandfatherly, each 3 1/8 x 2 7/8 inches; these are quite likely unpublished, as is another snapshot portrait. A larger photograph mounted opposite the title-page; we have been unable to locate this image elsewhere. The signature, clearly extracted from a letter, has a typed felicitation "Herzlich grüsst Sie/Ihr [A. Einstein in pen.]/Albert Einstein."
