[SPACE PHOTOGRAPHY] Earthrise, shot from the Soviet Zond-7 unmanned Moon-flyby spacecraft.
Chromogenic print, the photograph taken August 11, 1969, one of 35 lunar pictures with made with the robotic SKD camera and 300 mm objective, on 5.6 by 5.6-centimeter frames of color and panchromatic film. 6 1/2 x 4 5/6 inches (16.5 x 12 cm) on card mount, inscription in cursive Cyryllic to "Tommy Kogycy" below image, dated November 5, 1969 (less than three months after the return of the spacecraft to earth). Image toned, the inscription rather faded, the image lifting from the mount (no annotations on the verso).

The first series of Russian Earthrise images were taken by the Zond-6 lunar orbiter, which crashed (though the images were retrievable). The Zond-7 performed a soft landing; this was the first fully successful test of the Soyuz 7K-L1 craft.
