London printed by M. Flesher, for Richard Mynne, in Little Britaine at the signe of S. Paul, 1634. The first English edition of the Meditations. Old speckled calf, all edges sprinkled red. 7 1/8 x 5 inches (18 x 13 cm); [14--of 16, lacking the initial blank], 27, [1], 210, 46 p., collating A^(4) B^(2) C-2P^(4). Boards detached, the spine worn (and likely a rebacking, some toning and marginal soft creasing, some pale staining, an unwashed copy, lacking the preliminary blank.
Translated by the Anglo-French scholar Meric Casaubon, a prebendary at Canterbury Cathedral and a translator of several classical authors, this was the first translation of Aurelius into English.
