[SILVER BINDING] Silver prayer-book binding.
Likely German: second or third quarter of the 18th century. 7 3/8 x 4 5/8 inches (19 x 11.5 cm); of rococo pierced scrollwork design, the front cover with a central medallion of the Baptism of Christ; the rear cover with a medallion of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, the fore-edge with replacement loop wire clasps. Inserted in the binding is an unrelated late 19th century American Book of Common Prayer. Clasps replaced with wire using the original clasp mountings, light wear, in all a most attractive example.
