The Steamship 'Altonower' off a Coast

The 'Altonower' was a cargo steamship built by Andrew Leslie & Co. at Hebburn-on-Tyne in 1880. She was purchased by Adam & Co. of Aberdeen, which sold her in 1895 to Nippon Yusen of Tokyo. Renamed 'Yeijo Maro,' she subsequently belonged to several Japanese shipping companies before running aground at Kinkasan, an island off northeastern Japan, in 1916.

Wax relined. Restoration around the edges to address old frame abrasion; an areas of repair (1 x 2 nches) in the sky at upper center; scattered touches of restoration elsewhere in the sky. Two repaired tears in the water near the lower left margin; several repaired holes in the water near the lower center.
