Prague: V. Polacek, 1945. First (and only) edition, publisher's spiral binding with thin card wrappers, housed in a modern clamshell case, 8 1/4 x 5 3/4 inches (20.75 x 14.5 cm); iv, 53 pp., with 51 images after photographs by Sudek (plus the two cover images). Minor defects to spiral binding, the paper (near-newsprint in quality) evenly toned.
A remarkable series of images by Sudek, printed in the year of the expulsion of German troops from Czechoslovakia, doubtless under exceptionally difficult conditions. The images depict much of the damage to the city that took place under the brutal Nazi occupation, as well as scenes of comparative normalcy. A rare Sudek desideratum, we note only two copies recorded on FirstSearch, those at Oxford and the National Library of Czechoslovakia. No further years appear to have been published.
