George Jones Majolica Cobalt-Blue Ground 'Hunter and Hound' Circular Tureen, Liner and Cover

The tureen molded with a scrolling rinceaux vine enclosing stags, hounds and putti blowing hunting horns, the cover with a kneeling hunter holding a rifle, attended by a hound at his side, among ivy and tall grass, yellow and ochre line rims, turquoise interior, the underside mottled in brown and green, the turquoise interior fitted with a liner. Height 7 1/2 inches, diameter 9 1/8 inches.

Majolica International Society, Karmason Library, no. KL001633. According to the Karmason Library card, "Only one other example of this form is known, that example has a finial of a boy sitting on the ground with his Borzoi type hound."
