[ENGLISH AUTHORS] Collection of 19th and 20th century literature from mostly English authors.
Fourteen titles in fifteen volumes, all first editions in original publisher's bindings unless noted. Comprising: CONRAD, JOSEPH. Suspense. London: Dent, 1925. First English edition. Publisher's cloth, in original dust jacket, slipcase. Two gouges to jacket spine, some wear to extremities, Conrad's last and posthumously published novel; WALTON, IZAAK and RACKHAM, ARTHUR. The Compleat Angler, Philadelphia, circa 1931, modern three-quarters morocco gilt, wear to joints and corners; BUTLER, SAMUEL. Erewhon,1872, clamshell case, cloth faded, the Littell copy with booklabel; BUTLER, SAMUEL. The Way of All Flesh, 1903, morocco backed slipcase, hinges split, otherwise a sound copy; BROOKE, RUPERT. 1914 and Other Poems, 1915, slipcase, a fine copy; BROOKE, RUPERT. Poems, 1911, slipcase, chip to label; HENLEY, ROBERT. A Book of Verses, 1888, glassine and wrappers, slipcase, booklabel, spine stained; BEERBOHM, MAX. Zuleika Dobson or an Oxford Love Story, 1911, cloth case, a few spots and stains but sound overall, bookplate; BROWNING, ROBERT. Men and Women, 1855, two volumes, slipcase, spines faded, headcap of volume I chipped; SHAW, GEORGE BERNARD. Man & Superman, 1903, morocco backed slipcase, cloth lightly soiled and spotted; TENNYSON, ALFRED, LORD. Enoch Arden, 1864, headcap chipped, the Beverly Chew and Katharine B. Parsons copy with bookplates; DAUDET, ALPHONSE. Lettres de Mon Moulin, wrappers, later printing, worn; and two private press works, being the Grolier Club published The History of Helyas, Knight of the Swan, 1901, one of 325, original embossed leather with clasps, chemise, slipcase, the cover detached and the Peter Pauper Press edition of Confucius in full morocco by Maurin, slipcase, fine. Not fully checked for issue points, no dust jackets present, the lot sold as is. The lot 15 volumes.
