Italy. Lucania Metapontion ca. 400-300 BC. AR Nomos (6.84g).
Noe 448; SNG ANS 341 (ex Newell).
Obverse: Head of Demeter or Persephone facing right, wearing sakkos and elaborate earring; on right, artist's mark on curl. Reverse: Ear of grain with tendril on left; lambda upsilon within loop of tendril. Good Very Fine, fine style, iridescent toning.
Ex: Fortuna Fine Arts, 1990.
N.B. The female head on the obverse is uncertain; it may be a representation of some locally recognized nymph.
