Mount Washington, N. H.: Henry M. Burt, July 20, 1877. A single large sheet folded to make 8 pp. measuring 13 1/4 x 10 inches; illustrated. A bit of edgewear and one short tear, faint dampstaining along vertical fold; together with Burt's Among the Clouds. Printed Daily on the Summit of Mount Washington. Vol. 1, No. 2. Mount Washington, N. H.: Henry M. Burt, July 21, 1877. Lightly toned, minor edgewear, two inch tear along fold, faint dampstaining in margins.
The first two issues of "the first attempt, so far as we are aware, to print a newspaper on the summit of any mountain in the world" (Vol. 1, No. 1, p. 4). Henry Burt's daily paper contains local news and advertisements, all geared towards the White Mountains and Lakes Region tourist trade. These issues contain information about author Josh Billings, who was then fly fishing in the region, and members of the Appalachian Mountain Club, who were making observations from the summit of Mount Washington that day.
