[Franeker: Leonard Strik, 1695.] Engraved map, hand colored, central fold, framed. 13 x 18 5/8 (33 x 47 cm) to the neatline. Paper with even light toning, a bit faded around the central fold, not examined out of frame.

Mercator's map of the Arabian Peninsula, with parts of East Africa and West Asia, is based on the geography of Claudius Ptolemy of Alexandria dating from around 150 AD. Provenance: Altea Books and Maps, London, 2001. Karrow, 56/E-1, p. 398; Tibbetts, G.R. 39; Koeman, Me 5.
