Don Celender A rare full sheet of Artball Trading Cards featuring Warhol and others.
A full sheet, possibly a proof, of this series of artist trading cards, circa 1971, photographically reproduced, with 50 cards printed on recto and verso of one large card. The full sheet 23 x 29 inches (58 x 74 cm). Some stains in margin and one short tear.
In this uncommon and amusing series, Warhol plays for the "Yankz." The verso of his card depicts him making a Brillo Box screenprint. Almost all the major artists of the era are represented including Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Alexander Calder, Alan Kaprow, Wassily Kandinsky, Jasper Johns, and gallerists Leo Castelli and Peggy Guggenheim. This set of cards is sometimes found cut and boxed; we also note an edition of 200 copies of which this may be a proof.
