JONATHAN BECKER Andy Warhol with Dyed Corsets in the Factory, 1986.
Color printed photograph depicting Warhol standing in three-quarters length before a rack of pink, green and yellow dyed corsets. Initialed, dated an inscribed by Becker below the image "AW 1986/for Brigid/Love, JB" and the verso with Becker's initialed hand-stamp. The full sheet 11 x 11 inches (28 x 28 cm). Three small white spots on the image surface at upper left, likely removable.
After being shot by Valerie Solanas in 1968, Andy Warhol underwent surgeries that miraculously saved his life but left his chest and abdomen deeply scarred and requiring the use of corsets to support his internal organs. The corsets shown here were hand-dyed by best friend Brigid Berlin, and Warhol, not shy about showing his scars to photographers, here lifts his turtleneck revealing the blue corset chosen on that particular day.
C Estate of Brigid Berlin
