BRIGID BERLIN Calendars from 1971-73.
Two calendars from late 1971 through 1973 with most days filled in ink by Berlin documenting her appointments and trips, both about 9 x 11 inches (23 x 28 cm); offered with a later calendar and Spiral notebook mostly recording Berlin's dieting efforts. Wear from use and handling.
The calendars from late 1971-73 prove a breakneck pace of events and social engagements. The first page fully accomplished page, November 1971, includes mention of Viva on Phil Donahue; a visit to Max's; dinner with Bob Rauschenberg; Arman's party; Neil Dimond; Joe Brainard at Gotham Book Mart; and continues mentioning Alice Cooper and a Roy Lichtenstein show at the Castelli Gallery. On Tuesday January 4th, 1971 there is mention of a dubbing session for Ciao Manhattan, in post-production a month following the death of Edie Sedgwick. Lou Reed's birthday is noted on March 3rd and The Godfather was seen when it opened later that month. Sometimes the entries are diary like, with Berlin mentioning frequently "Woke up at Viva's." Later in life, Berlin frequently dieted and fastidiously kept logs of all intake and the two later items here offer these efforts. An interesting day to day of this heady period, likely of interest to future researchers and biographers..
