This work is the first concept for the larger work which appears as lot 1037 in this sale. The Chrysler Museum of Art has yet another similar composition by Noble entitled "Blessing of the Sea", 1911-13.

Dirty, yellowed varnish; frame rubbing; wear to corners; slight warp to the board; some fine craquelure in the sky which as resulted in a few specs of paint loss; there appears to be some inpainting in the center of the sky. No further apparent restoration.
