New Harmony, IN: Printed at the School Press, 1831. First edition, Howes second issue with the pagination extending to page 640 and ending mid-sentence. Two volumes in one. Modern calf backed cloth in period style. 8 3/4 x 5 1/4 inches (22 x 14 cm); [4] 480; 481-640 (ending mid-sentence as issued). Dampstained.

Scarce first edition in the 2nd issue of this work printed at the utopian communiry then headed by the American geologist and social reformer William Maclure. A third volume was added in 1838 (not present here). Howes M162; Sabin 43554.
