Antwerp: circa 1589 or later. Three engraved maps with hand-coloring on one sheet. Latin text on verso. 13 1/4 x 18 1/4 inches (34 x 47 cm); framed. Somewhat spotted and toned, the center fold reinforced on the verso.

This early and important map of Florida first appeared in the 1584 Latin edition of Ortelius' Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. The map is based upon Geronimo de Chaves, Royal Cosmographer to Philip II of Spain, and the journey of Hernando de Soto, as recorded by Gonzalo de Oviedo.
