[SURGERY] DRYANDER, JOHANN. Artzenei Spiegel gemeyner Innhalt derselbigen, Des beide einem Leib und Wundartzet, in der Theoric, Practic, unnd Chirurgeizusteht.
Frankfurt: Christian Egenolff, 1557. Old vellum, part of a sammelband with two other imperfect works (see below). 11 1/2 x 1/4 inches (29 x 19 cm); [4], 153 ff.; illustrated throughout with remarkable woodcuts pertaining to medicine and surgery. The binding defective and lacking the lining endpapers (for a long period; there are notes on the interior of the vellum dating to 1860), margins frayed, extensive soiling and occasional rather crude repairs to marginal tears, portion of f. 23 and small portion of f. 79 lacking. Very far from a pretty copy, but a rare and interesting work with extraordinary cuts of surgical tools. Sold as is, not subject to return.

The other works included (the Dryander is situated between them) are Andrea Gallo Fascis de peste: peripneumonia pestilentiali cum sputo sanguinis, febre pestilentiali, ac de quibusdam symptomatibus, in quinque fasciculos digestus Brescia: 1556 (lacking--at least--all before p. 10); and a rare veterinary work Ein newe und bewerte Roszartzney: darinnen allerhand gebresten, so innerlich unnd eusserlich des Leibs der Rossen zustehen oder begegnen mochten... [Strasburg 1583], lacking (at minimum) part of the title and some terminal leaves. Egenolff was a prolific and important publisher of Kräuterbuch and other compendia. Waller 2577 etc.
