London: printed for J. Debrett, 1795. First edition. Original publisher's boards, with paper backstrip, housed in a clamshell case and chemise. 12 3/8 x 9 3/4 inches (31.5 x 25 cm); xxiv, 278, [26] pp. Spine worn with losses, boards worn, but an uncut, largely unopened copy.
Anderson was the valet to Lord Macartney, and was a lively and informed observer of Chinese manners and mores, providing one of the best of the first-hand accounts of Chinese life as witnessed by a member of the embassy.
