Lot Details
Lot 123
[MANUSCRIPTS] Twenty-five text leaves extracted from one or more illuminated fifteenth century manuscripts
The first leaf present (numbered seven in pencil in the upper right margin) is dated by the scribe 1478, according to a scribal note. The leaves (not contiguous) are written in several fine hands in two columns on uterine vellum, 5 5/8 × 4 inches (14 x 10.5 cm) and are illuminated in gold and colors with three- and four-line initials, columnar decorations, and in one instance a seven-line initial with a half-leaf border. Some old stains, light wear, occasional early side notes.
Given the variety of hands here, the leaves may originate from more than one manuscript, or from a single well-wrought composite manuscript. These leaves include a list of patriarchs and prophets; the colophon leaf previously mentioned; etc.
