The back of the panel is stamped with panelmaker's marks: twice with a hand and once with a tower (or city gate), both used by panelmakers and sculptors in the city of Antwerp in the 16th and 17th centuries.

Compound panel comprising three planks. There is a thin line of restoration along the junction of the upper and middle planks, running through the king's lower face and beard, with attendant restoration to the curtains around his head. Scattered areas of restoration in the sky in the upper right quadrant. Shadows and dark areas on the dais reinforced.
