NEW YORK, NY -- The final sale of Rare Books, Autographs & Maps in 2022 offered many gift-ready items for the holiday season! With competitive bidding, the sale totaled a successful $183,802 with 100% sold by value.

Highlighting the sale was an attractively colored copy of the 1482 Hyginus Poeticon Astronomicon, the first printed depictions of the Classical figures of the constellations that soared past its estimate of $2,000-3,000 to achieve $15,120. Other top lots include a copy of the first octavo edition of Audubon’s Quadrupeds handsomely bound in 20th-century red morocco, the great Wiener Werkstatte publication Die Fläche and a copy of Dame Juliana Berners A Treatyse of Fysshynge wyth an Angle. Also of great interest to bidders was a beautifully rendered unpublished manuscript by English artist and calligrapher Marie Angel of dinosaurs, The Estelle Doheny copy of Charles Dickens’s Pickwick in the original parts, a remarkably appealing example of the first edition of Gone with the Wind, the first-issue jacket in uncommonly nice shape, a set of inscribed copies of Maurice Sendak’s Nutshell Library, two of the copies with charming drawings and a pair of photographs signed by Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip in the year of the Coronation, 1953.
