Publisher's cloth, lettered and decorated in black on the upper cover, housed in a morocco backed case. 7 1/4 x 4 3/4 inches (19 x 12 cm); 475 pp., folding diagram in the text. The volume rebacked preserving much of the original spine strip, the hinges strengthened, neat signature to blank, split to folding diagram, a few stray stains.
First edition of the author's first book, considered one of the best American detective novels. The Leavenworth Case "may fairly be called the father of the modern detective story.
