BRIDGES, WILLIAM A Map of a Block of Ground situate in Water Street between Walnut and Fir Streets showing high and low Water Marks and the soundings between low water mark and a Reef of Rocks taken at low Water.
Manuscript map in ink and colors on paper, the title and imprint within a scroll reading as above and with the following in ink beneath the title "New York/Surveyed April 1807/Wm Bridges/City Surveyor." The map is backed. 22 x 19 inches (57 x 38 cm). Losses to extremities, dust soiling and stains affecting the title cartouche.
A colorful original map by William Bridges depicting the soundings of the East River where it meets Water Street in 1807. The title is presented in an elegant scroll. Walnut and Fir, with both Front and South Street added between the shoreline, are named on the Mangin-Goerck plan of 1800. This map shows Water Street before the addition of Front and South Streets.
