The very rare first edition piano score for one of George Gershwin's most enduring works, An American in Paris, which premiered at Carnegie Hall in 1928 with the composer at the piano. Of the piece, Gershwin wrote "My purpose here is to portray the impression of an American visitor in Paris, as he strolls about the city, and listens to various street noises and absorbs the French atmosphere." The wrappers here also advertise "George Gershwin's Famous Compositions," including Rhapsody in Blue, from 1924.
