NEW YORK, NY -- Doyle held a successful auction showcasing of Latin American Art on March 8, 2023. The sale of paintings, drawings, prints and sculpture presented works by prominent artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, representing Central and South American as well as the Caribbean Islands. Also featured in the sale was a section devoted to 20th Century Abstraction.

Rómulo Macció
Highlighting the Latin American works was Retrato a Mano/Discurso by Rómulo Macció that realized $50,400, within expectations. A major figure in the Argentine avant-garde, Macció worked in a Neo-Expressionist style, and helped to lead the Nueva Figuración movement of the 1960s. Circa 1974, Retrato a Mano/Discurso showcases Macció’s representational abstraction, with deep fields of color and forms influenced by Francis Bacon and Willem de Kooning. Lot 99

Julio Larraz
Cuban artist Julio Larraz’s Study for Pretty Legs sold for $34,650, also within its estimate. Larraz depicts Cuban culture through the lens of Surrealism, with images of daily life and work in Cuba. From 1977 Study for Pretty Legs is a moody, haunting still life encapsulating Larraz’ passion for Spanish Baroque paintings. Lot 103
