With the original silver print frontispiece of Mount Tamalpais (uncredited but often attributed, possibly spuriously, to Ansel Adams), 12 halftone plates from photographs, [iii]-xii, 305 pp. A very fine copy, a trifle of dampstain and spotting to edges and lower margin of a few interior leaves. Light wear to boards and spine, black spot on upper board, contents very lightly toned, offered with another edition of the same title, London: W. H. Allen, 1893. Publisher's red cloth. Spine faded, cloth rippling in a few areas, slight spine lean. Two early editions of Parker Gillmore's sporting memoir, where the Scottish world traveler recounted his experiences both big game hunting and fishing. Most of the narrative takes place in America, where Gillmore hunted elk, bear, and various kinds of birds and fish. 6) [TAXIDERMY]. BATTY, J. H. Practical Taxidermy, and Home Decoration; Together with General Information for Sportsmen. New York: Orange Judd Company, 1888. Publisher's brown cloth, decoratively stamped in gilt and in black, beveled boards. 7 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches. 203 pp, 5 pp. of ads; frontispiece, in-text illustrations. Extremities rubbed, head and tail of spine softened, corners lightly bumped, hinges starting, bookseller's label to front free endpaper. An in-depth guide to preparing and mounting all types of animals for taxidermy. The final chapter deal with related natural specimens, such as shells and plants, with an eye to interior decoration; 7) ROFKAR, FRANKLIN V. The Hunting Game. New York: Exposition Press, 1950. Light wear to boards and spine extremities, jacket with pale waterstains, some uneven toning and a few small chips. "This book gives helpful information on a variety of subjects ranging from guns and equipment to hunting sites and tactics - not to mention innumerable anecdotes, cautionary tales, and modest brags." First edition. Stapled in publisher's printed paper wrapper. 6 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches; [i]-iv, 38 pp., 12 pp. ads, in text illustrations. Short tears to front wrapper at head and tail of spine, faint smudge to title page, altogether a well-preserved example. A scarce manual for the amateur trapper, tanner or taxidermist.
