George Jones Majolica Six-Piece 'Marie' Strawberry Server Set
Circa 1875
The oval stand modeled as a rustic plank trough molded in relief with flowering strawberry plants, with two blue tits eating strawberries, perched above on a trestle-form branch handle, removable demilune barrels for sugar and cream at each end, and three serving spoons for berries, cream and sifting sugar, impressed GJ monogram mark and registry diamond (9-S-G-2) for 9 February 1875, black painted shape no. 3423 and T. Width overall 14 inches.

overall very nice condition; two of the bluetit wing tips restored; one of the branch feet on the server reattached, not visible when placed; one of the barrel-form servers with highly clever professional restoration to multiple breaks; the large spoon repaired at the handle and to the edge of the bowl; the sifter spoon with restoration to a chip on the edge of the bowl; overall, light surface wear and a few negligible nicks to the highpoints; the third spoon in good condition; other barrel form in good condition; all examined under blackligfht
