NEW YORK, NY – The popular Doyle+Design auction on June 7, 2023 saw competitive bidding from collectors, decorators and design influencers from coast to coast and overseas. This highly-anticipated sale category showcases a wide range of Modern and Contemporary furniture, art, silver and design by prominent designers, makers and artists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Fine Art
Determined bidders drove exceptional prices for fine art, setting World Auction Records for works by artists Bob Bennett, Jeffrey Gold, Judith Murray, Pete Omlor and Barbara Pniewska.

Topping the fine art offerings was a work from 1975 titled Musicians by Graciela Rodo Boulanger that achieved $12,600, more than doubling its $3,000-5,000 estimate. Born in 1935 in La Paz, Bolivia, Graciela Rodo Boulanger (b. 1935) developed a passion for painting from an early age. Her work often depicts whimsical figures engaged in playful activities, with the joy of childhood central to her work across a variety of media. Certain works capture her musical upbringing, her mother having been a concert pianist, and in another life the artist may have pursued a career in music. She instead devoted her energy to painting and has enjoyed a long career with exhibitions on continents across the world.

Furniture & Design
A walnut double chest of drawers by George Nakashima acquired from the furniture maker in 1953 and descended in the family realized $18,900, and an iconic 1970s leather upholstered Egg chair and ottoman by Arne Jacobsen from a Penthouse designed by Solis, Betancourt and Sherrill sold for $11,970, doubling its estimate of $4,000-6,000.
