[HAGGADAH] The Moss Haggadah.
Rochester: Bet Alpha, 1987. One of 500 numbered copies (and 50 artist copies), this copy 338, signed by David Moss. Maroon crushed morocco, panel gilt stamped, gilt stamp titles on spine. Facsimile and commentary volume housed within a cloth-covered slipcase, maroon morocco trim to match facsimile volume. 18 x 11 1/2 inches (46 x 29 cm); the facsimile volume [1], 1-52 [1] ff.; commentary volume, [4], 76 [102], 56 [4] pp. Small spot of discoloration on front cover, else fine, offered with five copies of the prospectus, each with a specimen leaf, and a copy of the trade edition.
A three-year project, commissioned by Richard and Beatrice Levy in 1980, Moss's Haggadah was a remarkable accomplishment. The work utilizes a wide variety of media: calligraphy, micrography, gouache, gold leaf, acrylics and paper-cuts. Neil and Sharon Norry, who saw a photographic facsimile of the work, pursued the production of a facsimile, and in 1987 the present work was the outcome. The extraordinary facsimile work was produced at Stamperia Valdonega of Verona on paper prepared for the edition by Cartiere Fredrigoni of Verona. The accompanying commentary serves to interpret and deepen the experience of viewing the work.
