Lot 76
BECKETT, SAMUEL Molloy.
Paris: Les Amis des Editions de Minuit, [1951]. First French edition (i.e. the true first edition), limited issue, one of 500 copies on Navarre (this copy 145), a fine presentation copy to Tom Bishop "For Tom and Helen/with love/from Sam/Paris/January 1981." Publisher's printed tan wrappers. 7 3/8 x 4 3/4 inches (18.75 x 12.25 cm); 272, [iv] pp. Covers a bit toned, light wear, but a sound example.

First written in French by Beckett (a customary practice of his), this is the initial work in what would become a trilogy. It did not appear in English until 1955, translated jointly by Beckett and Patrick Bowles. The recipients noted on the title are the noted New York University Beckett scholar--and close friend of the author--Tom Bishop and his wife Helen.
