London: MacMillan, 1872. First edition, first issue with "wade" for "wabe" on page 21. Full red morocco gilt by Bayntun (Rivère), the upper cover with the Queen of Hearts in gilt, the spine in six compartments with gilt motifs, lettered in two and three, original cloth bound in at the rear, all edges gilt; housed in a scarlet morocco slipcase and chemise. 7 1/4 x 5 inches (18 x 12.5 cm); 224 pp., ad leaf; illustrations after John Tenniel throughout. Minute wear, generally a superior copy.
