[MAP-FLORIDA] Map of the Seat of War in Florida Compiled by Order of Bvt. Brigr. Genl. Z. Taylor, Principally from the Surveys and Reconnaissances of the Officers of the U.S. Army, drawn by Capt. John Mackay and Lieut. J.E. Blake.
Washington: 1839. Engraved map with hand-color in outline on two sheets joined, folded and housed in a morocco backed case. Opens to approximately 40 x 30 inches (102 x 38 cm) with wider margins. A few punctures at fold points and short splits to ends, light handling creases, very clean overall with some toning and spotting to edges and verso.
A very large, scarce map of Florida prepared at the time of the Second Seminole War. The map contains a great deal of information on Army forts, Seminole villages, vegetation and hydrology, and a large network of roads and trails. Battlefields are marked with crossed swords. Hand-coloring is used to delineate the District assigned to the Seminoles by the Arrangement of Gen. Macomb on May 18, 1839.
