Lady Mary Wortley Montague (1689-1762) was an English society beauty and writer married to the politician and diplomat Edward Wortley Montague. She accompanied her busband when he was posted to Constantinople as the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, and there wrote a remarkable series of letters describing the life of the Turkish women that she met there, which were posthumously published.
