New York: Covici-Friede, (1938). First edition (not stated). Publisher's tan cloth lettered in black, in the pictorial dust-jacket. 11 x 8 1/2 inches (28 x 21.5 cm); photographically illustrated after Gerda Taro and Robert Capa throughout. The jacket toned, frayed with losses, wear; the book generally clean.

Death in the Making is one of the greatest photobooks of the period, and as reportage on the Spanish Civil War is unexcelled. Gerda Taro lost her life in its making, crushed beneath the treads of a tank, as described in the flap copy of the jacket. The book is rare in the jacket. Parr & Badger, I, p. 139. Auer, p. 266.
