ORLIK, EMIL (1870-1932) Marlene Dietrich and Resel Orla,
circa 1923, apparently unique. Gelatin silver contact print, 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches (115 x 87 mm), numbered 77 in the negative (upper left), with the Orlik estate stamp on the verso. Minute abrasions to edge of print, in all fine.

A remarkable image by Orlik of Marlene Dietrich in the dressing room of the Deutschen Theater, Berlin, where she took acting lessons. See Emil Orlik, Leben und Werk 1870-1932, Prag, Wein, Berlin 1997, page 65 (variation). Sold Grisebach GmbH: Thursday, November 23, 2000 [Lot 01345].

Norma Stevens represented Richard Avedon for thirty years, and her husband Martin (d. 2016) was an art and creative director for Revlon and other agencies.
