Collection of approximately 650 still photographs, vintage prints or later copies, including many with studio identification of scene on verso, several with the photographer's stamp, mostly 14 x 10 inches or 10 x 8 inches, a few smaller. A few with signs of wear.

Nancy Carroll (1904-1965) was the first Hollywood actress to sing and dance on a sound stage; the film was "Abie's Irish Rose," essentially a silent with a few talking and singing sequences added. She retired from the motion pictures in 1938 but until the end of her life appeared on television and in stage productions. Many of the photographs in Paul L. Nemcek's The Films of Nancy Carroll (1969) were drawn from the Whitney collection.
