Campbell's Soup Paper Dress
American, 1960s
Inspired by the work of Andy Warhol, the dress printed with interpretive Campbell's Soup labels in red white and black, the dress labeled: The Souper Dress/No Cleaning-No Washing-It's Carefree/Fire Resistant Unless Washed Or Cleaned.
Very good condition, unworn, one fragile area with small tear at front, minor overall yellowing.
Capitalizing on the publicity generated by Andy Warhol's ground breaking work and the rage for stylish disposable paper clothing, the Campbell's Soup Company produced these dresses as an effective marketing tool. It is an icon of the intersection of art, style and commerce of the period.
