Two Russian Porcelain Plates
Imperial Porcelain Factory, Saint Petersburg, period of Nicholas I, second quarter of the 19th century
From the Kremlin Service, each circular, painted with stylized blossoms on a gilt ground centering a double-headed eagle and Russian title of Nicholas I, underglaze blue factory mark. Diameters 8 1/2 (21.6 cm) and 8 7/8 inches (22.5 cm).
The Kremlin Service was commissioned by Tsar Nicholas I in 1836 and designed by the painter F.G. Solntsev. The motifs were inspired by 17th century metalwork designs.
