According to Professor David B. Lawall, this work by Durand "displays the perception of the intricacy of form, texture, color, light, atmosphere, and space that is characteristic of Asher B. Durand's best out-door studies of a given slice of nature and painted from direct observation (as opposed to his studio compositions)."

We warmly thank Professor Lawall for his kind assistance in authenticating this painting. A letter from Professor Lawall accompanies this lot.
