BROWNE, HABLOT K[NIGHT] A group of six drawings of hunting scenes.
. Each is attached to a mount, matted and framed. The drawings are rendered in pencil with watercolor washes, and are pencil signed with the artist's pseudonym ("Phiz") at lower right, and titled at lower left. Each measures approximately 7 1/2 x 10 3/4 inches (19 x 27 cm). Very slight fading, overall most attractive.
The drawings are titled The last trench, A Burster, The Take, Go Over, Get him Boys, and A Cropper. Each is Roman numbered, apparently from a set of ten. Also included in the lot are two hand-colored hunting lithographs by "Phiz," published by H. & N. Hanhart.
Provenance:
By descent from Hablot K. Browne to Valerie Browne Lester, Phiz's descendant and biographer, with her bookplate.
