Full vellum of the period, title hand-lettered on the spine. all edges sprinkled red. 11 3/4 (30 cm); folio by imposition, 4 ff., 252 pp. (pagination occasionally erroneous, but text complete and in order); followed by 20 bistre-toned engraved plates, including one (plate two) of a vehicle equipped for flight. An extremely fresh and unsophisticated copy, with the bookplate of William G. Gerhard.
Lana Terzi's diagram and accompanying calculations were deeply influential on the development of the balloon, and it is no exaggeration to call him the father of the science of aeronautics. Magnificent copy of a seminal work.
